Do you have a junk drawer?

3/25/2014

The amazing thing about a "Junk Drawer" is that you think you need all the stuff in there.  When it comes right down to it, most of these items never get used because they are too hard to find.   On  one of these late winter afternoons, I dumped out all the stuff in our kitchen desk junk drawer and found out there were about 30 old pen tops, dried up ball point pens, lots of rubber bands, old unidentifiable keys, and hoards of dust bunnies.  It felt great to throw away most of this stuff and to neatly organize the items we really do use. "A place for everything and everything in its place"
Does anyone out there have a Junk Drawer gem of wisdom to share???

Share one organizing hint that you are using this fall to help your family's schedule to flow more smoothly!

How are you doing with kitchen appliance maintenance??

6/29/2013

This, let the truth be told, is the mound of dust bunnies at the base of our refrigerator I discovered this week upon investigating why our 15 year old refrigerator wasn't cooling our food properly!  Mighty embarrassing, I know.  The manual stated that the condenser coils needed to be cleaned by vacuuming "every other month".  WHOA.......in that effort I failed miserably.  So, folks, this is a friendly reminder to keep your appliance manuals handy and refer to them now and then.  Don't wait until you have a malfunction like I did!
P.S.  It turned out that even a thorough cleaning didn't resurrect our frig, but who knows how its happy life might have been extended had I been more vigilant??
Now that I have shared my story, I invite you to share a true horror story of a kitchen appliance in your life!  Come on, BLOG AWAY!!

The little tupperware lids

4/22/2013

Picture
We have some handy little tupperware cups that we use daily.  The only catch is that each one is color-coded with an exact sized cover.  Those little covers were always hiding in the sink, under dirty dishes, or just randomly placed.
SOLUTION:  I organized my tupperware shelf, using a special long, skinny container especially for the elusive toppers.  Now we can find them easily!
